Walnut Wood Care Guide
Walnut wood is naturally beautiful, warm, and long-lasting when cared for properly.
Because every TwoWoodCo piece is made from real wood, small variations in grain, tone, and texture are normal and part of its character.
Follow these simple care tips to help your personalized walnut gift stay beautiful for years.
How to Care for Your Walnut Cutting Board
Clean by Hand Only
After use, wipe away food and wash the board by hand with warm water and mild dish soap.
Do not place your walnut cutting board in the dishwasher.
High heat and excess moisture can cause wood to dry out, warp, or crack.
Dry Immediately
After washing, dry the board with a clean towel.
Let it air dry completely before storing.
For best results, stand the board upright or place it in a well-ventilated area so both sides can dry evenly.
Do Not Soak
Avoid soaking your board in water or leaving it in the sink.
Long exposure to water can damage natural wood and may cause warping or cracking.
Oil Regularly
To keep the walnut wood moisturized and protected, apply a thin layer of food-grade mineral oil when the wood begins to look dry.
How to oil your board:
-
Make sure the board is clean and completely dry.
-
Apply a small amount of food-grade mineral oil with a soft cloth.
-
Rub evenly along the grain.
-
Let the oil absorb for several hours or overnight.
-
Wipe away any excess oil before use.
For regular home use, oiling once every few weeks or once a month is usually enough, depending on how often the board is used and washed.
Avoid Cooking Oils
Do not use olive oil, vegetable oil, or other cooking oils to maintain your board.
These oils may become sticky or develop unwanted odors over time.
Use only food-grade mineral oil or a food-safe wood oil made for cutting boards.
Use and Display
Your walnut cutting board can be used for serving, display, and everyday kitchen use when properly cared for.
To protect the engraved surface, we recommend using the non-engraved side for heavier cutting whenever possible.
How to Care for Your Walnut Keepsake Box
Walnut keepsake boxes are designed to hold meaningful memories such as photos, letters, cards, baby keepsakes, jewelry, and small treasures.
Keep It Dry
Avoid placing the box in damp areas or near water.
Excess moisture may affect the wood, finish, or hardware over time.
Avoid Direct Sunlight
Long exposure to direct sunlight may cause natural wood to fade or change tone.
Keep your box in a cool, dry place away from strong sunlight.
Clean Gently
Use a soft, dry cloth to remove dust.
For small marks, use a slightly damp cloth and dry immediately.
Do not use harsh cleaners, alcohol-based sprays, or abrasive pads.
Protect the Engraving
The engraved area is part of the natural wood surface.
Avoid scratching it with sharp objects or rubbing it aggressively.
A gentle wipe with a soft cloth is usually enough.
Natural Wood Variation
Every walnut piece is unique.
Color, grain, knots, and natural markings may vary from piece to piece.
These differences are not defects — they are part of what makes real walnut wood special.
Your personalized piece was made to carry a name, a date, a message, and a memory.
With simple care, it can be kept and enjoyed for years.
